A long-time participant of The Arc Jacksonville's Westside Adult Day Training Program, Russell had bigger aspirations. After working with an Arc job coach, he became an employee of The Home Depot's Fleming Island Store in February 2006. Russell now serves as the lot attendant. He is responsible for returning shopping carts are to their proper departments and with keeping the lot clear of trash. He also helps customers load their purchases into their cars.
Russell provides plenty of goodwill for The Home Depot, too, especially when helping women with plants and mulch from the lawn-and-garden department. Russell greets every customer he sees with, "Thank you for shopping The Home Depot!" His outgoing attitude has developed friendships with customers and co-workers alike. As Russell says, "I like my job. Everyone is nice to me and helps me out."
