Community-Based Employment: Individual Placement
The Community Based Employment Model is designed to help individuals seeking employment to find a job in a community business that best suits their abilities. Coaches provide job-site training in job skills and work-related behaviors, including social skills. Services include pre-employment skill building, training, career exploration, job search, job orientation, job coaching and follow-along services.
Supported Employment Changed Jason’s Life
At the age of sixteen, Jason decided that he wanted a job. But because he has Down Syndrome, challenges in the workplace are steeper for him than for most people. He found a job at the local Publix Supermarket, and with the help of an Arc Jacksonville job coach, he moved up to the stock crew within three years. After several more years, Jason’s job coach helped him apply for an office job at EverBank, and he has been there for four years. Thanks to The Arc Jacksonville, Jason loves to challenge himself in the workplace and is given every opportunity to succeed within the company.
"With the help of The Arc Jacksonville’s Community Based Employment team, the support of my family and the guidance of my co-workers, I have become a successful and valued employee."
